Where it all began…
I was born with the entrepreneurial bug. As early as first grade, my younger sister and I sold painted fans made of paper plates at our annual family reunion, sold lemonade in front of our grandparents’ house, and sold bracelets at a local consignment shop. So when I learned to sew in the 6th grade, it was a “seamless” transition.
My passion began with aprons, napkins, place mats, and tea towels. I started an Etsy shop in seventh grade and sold my table linens online for about three years before some of my quilted makeup bags sold well at a local market, and a gift shop in my hometown began selling my bags. From then on, I realized this was a way I could share my creativity with others.
“SEWn” comes from my initials—Sarah Ellis Walker—and reflects that everything I sell is 100% hand-sewn. The summer after tenth grade I started working on clothing patterns and sold my first garments at our local “Porchfest” market that fall. That experience made me realize my real passion was designing and sewing clothing.
At SEWn each piece is crafted with care, using natural materials, such as cotton and linen, that will last wear after wear. Our goal is to offer pieces that are polished and refined, while still remaining comfortable for all of life’s adventures.
With Love,
Sarah Ellis Walker
